System Updates: How to Clear Your Browser Cache After an Update

Prior to a scheduled EMR update, you should make sure that your internet settings have been set to delete your browsing history automatically. Most of the time, this is already set or you can ask your IT professional for verification.

In order for the update changes to apply, you will need to clear the browser cache on all computers using iMedicWare.

What is a cache?

It is a space on your hard drive where certain elements from websites, like images that are used on multiple web pages, are automatically downloaded and stored. Your browser will then access these elements, such as the iMedicWare logo, directly from the cache instead of loading it from scratch every time. This allows you to browse faster and more smoothly.

Please note: Directions for clearing the cache differ slightly between browsers. Following are directions for the most-used browsers:

Internet Explorer

  • Open IE and go to Tools (the gear icon) and click “Internet Options”.
  • In the “General” tab, under Browsing History, click “Delete”
  • Uncheck “Preserve Favorites Website Data”. Check the “Temporary Internet Files” and “Cookies” boxes. The click “Delete”.

Chrome

  • Click the “Hamburger Menu” (three horizontal lines) on the top, right-hand side of the URL box.
  • Go to “Settings”, scroll to the bottom and click “Show Advanced Settings”. Scroll down to “Privacy” and click “Clear Browsing Data”.
  • Set “Obliterate the following items from” to “The beginning of time”. Check the “Cookies” and “Cached images” boxes. Then, click “Clear Browsing Data”.

Safari

  • In the navigation menu, go to Safari – Preferences. Click the “Privacy” tab, then click “Remove All Website Data”. Then, click “Remove Now”.
