Our experienced management team comes from the day-to-day, hands-on experience with patients and physicians in real world situations. We’ve been there and done that when it comes to understanding how to operate more efficiently and boost productivity improving your overall business health. Our seasoned administrators bring to each project a breadth of experience based on years of experience in the healthcare industry – financial, clinical and operational.

Glenn A. deBrueys, Chief Executive Officer

Glenn deBrueys is one of the founding partners of American SurgiSite Centers, Inc. (ASC), developing, building  and managing out-patient surgery facilities. In 1998, ASC was sold to a public company, Vision Twenty-One, where he served as President. In 2001, Mr. deBrueys purchased the company back which has since expanded opening multiple free-standing surgical facilities in the northeast. Prior to founding American SurgiSite Centers, Glenn served as Regional  Sales Manager for Allergan and was Sales Manager for American V. Mueller, a Division of American Hospital Supply Corporation. Mr. deBrueys is involved in numerous charitable organizations such as New York City Relief, an organization feeding the homeless in NYC and NJ, where he serves as chairman. Mr. deBrueys received his Bachelor of Science degree from Gardner-Webb College in NC.

Louis I. Sheffler, Chief Operating Officer

Lou Sheffler is co-founder of American SurgiSite Centers  providing the clinical and software expertise based on many years of hands-on experience in the operating room. Mr. Sheffler serves as Chief Operating Officer responsible for all clinical operations of multiple outpatient surgical centers in the Northeast. Prior to co-founding American SurgiSite Centers with Mr. deBrueys, Mr. Sheffler served as President of Medical Consulting and Supply Group and Montville and served as Administrator, Unit Management at Englewood Hospital. Mr. Sheffler is a graduate of C W Post College in NY where he received his BA and Masters in Hospital Administration.

Maria Tietjen,  RN, BSN, Executive Vice-President Nursing and Clinical Services

Maria Tietjen has over 35 years of experience in the field of nursing and management in the clinical setting. Ms. Tietjen’s experience extends across direct patient care, administration and sales. Ms. Tietjen is the Executive VP of Nursing and Clinical Services for 9 ASC’s. She is responsible for overseeing all the nursing and clinical managerial aspects, regulatory and compliance, Infection Control and all areas of patient care. In the past, she held the position of charge nurse for the orthopedic department of a 16-room operating suite in northern New Jersey. She directed the nursing staff and was responsible for the equipment, implants and training of the personnel. From 1988 on she has been working in the field of Outpatient Ophthalmic Ambulatory Surgery Centers. Ms. Tietjen has been published in magazines and lectures at ASCRS and AAO meetings

Carl W. Desch, Jr.

Carl Desch, Jr. brings to American SurgiSite Centers years of project management experience and operations capabilities to the organization. As Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Desch’s primary responsibilities include the coordination of all financial reporting, treasury management , and management of all billing and collection functions for all centers. In addition, Mr. Desch oversees the network Purchasing Department and is responsible for insurance, public accounting and vendor services. Prior to joining Amercian SurgiSite Centers, Mr. Desch’s professional experience included serving as Chief of Staff and Chief Administrative Officer at Goldman Sachs & Co. and Chief Administrative Officer and Program Manager at J.P. Morgan & Co. Mr. Desch received his BA in Economics from Lafayette College and his MBA from the University of Virginia Darden School.
